FDL 2019 Mentor

For eight weeks, interdisciplinary teams of PhD & Post Doc researchers will be working on an identified problem definition set out by NASA / ESA / ESRIN.

The teams will be compromised of AI researchers and space science subject area researcher accompanied by a set of mentors with deep expertise in the challenge areas.

Mentor commitment expectations:

  • Attend and moderate discussions at weekly face-to-face meetings or virtual meetings,

  • Attending and participating in the ‘bootcamp’ week at the beginning of the FDL research sprint.

  • Provide reality checks during discussions when required, but also inspire more ambitious thinking

  • Daily 3 hour meetings focused on progress check and feedback

  • Be available to the members of the group for individual mentoring as requested and/or required.

Mentors are expected to be active rather than passive.

There is also opportunity for ‘virtual mentoring’ with adjusted time commitment.

Compensation
Accepting a role as a mentor is considered as a commitment of both time and energy. In acknowledgment of the effort, mentors will receive a stipend based on the commitment option chosen. All mentors are compensated in accordance with the level of support provided.
